If I Were in Charge of the World

(a form change poem with thanks to Judith Viorst

 

If I were in charge of the world,

I’d cancel vegetables, mushrooms, and also pizza.

 

If I were in charge of the world,

There would be more summer, more candy, and lots of money.

 

If I were in charge of the world,

You wouldn’t have spiders.

You wouldn’t have veggies.

You wouldn’t have homework.

 

If I were in charge of the world,

Ice cream sundaes with unlimited whipped cream

With hot fudge drizzled on top with Kit Kats

Would be a balanced meal.

All people would be people who play sports.

And a person who sometimes just didn’t have enough candy

And wanted to eat ten tons of ice cream

Would still be allowed to be in charge of the world.
